Neurosurgical Postoperative Infection Related to Scalp Hair

Abstract
|
|
|
The value of removing hair in preparation for neurosurgery is addressed in detail. The thors compare of the postoperative infection rate between 127 case of whole scalp hair aving group and 59 case of partial scalp hair shaving group.
The postoperative infection rate for the whole scalp hair shaving group was 2.4% and for the partial scalp hair shaving group These data are discussed in the context of tension nonneurosurgical and microbiologic literature. It is concluded the
removal
of ir by shaving does not lower the risk of surgical wound infection, and may increase e risk. A technique for preparing skin and hair for neurosurgery and for the managent of hair during neurosurgical procedures is discussed.
